Girls at Oxford High School will be the leaders of the future. We have outstanding opportunities in our Sixth Form, but girls don’t have to wait to become a Sixth Former to start gaining leadership experience.
Opportunities exist across the whole of school life. Leadership experience and life skills can be gained from being a Sports Leader helping to coach and mentor the younger players, to being a SHINE outreach mentor, or entering the challenging Duke of Edinburgh programme.
Students from across all year groups run Student Panel Interviews and conduct tours for visitors and staff appointments, each form group elects a Form Leader and a Deputy, a Charity Rep, a School Council Rep, and an IT Rep. This facilitates leadership on anything from developments in the Virtual Learning Environment or the Library, to organising a throw-a-sponge-at-a-teacher fund-raising event!
Most importantly, we support girls in leading their own initiatives, whatever these may be. Examples have included a Year 7 girl promoting a Youth Parliament campaign, Year 8 girls leading assemblies, a Year 12 student setting up a belly-dancing club or Year 13 girls organising a Green Fair for the whole school with local Oxford businesses participating.
