Kilve is an annual residential trip for Year 7 to face their fears, socialize with classmates, be independent and, most importantly, have fun.
When we arrived, we were assigned our groups and our dorms. Each group has around 12 people. We also ordered what we will eat during our stay. Each group’s activities daily are different, but in the end, all activities will be done.
On the first day, we would have our first activity- for my group, it was sailing. We first got taught how to steer the sail then we went in pairs and set sail on our own boat. It was great fun. In the evening after dinner, we have a shelter building. We used natural resources to build a comforting home and try to ‘sell’ them to the teachers. The fun part was the ‘waterproof test’- where the instructor pours water on your shelter and sees if you get wet.
On day 2, we went mountain biking and it was tiring but fun. I had that feeling of accomplishment after I went up to the mountain. But going downhill was exciting because of how steep the mountain was. In the afternoon, we did mountain boarding, which is skateboarding down a hill. We had safety equipment on so we wouldn’t get hurt. In the evening we did a low ropes obstacle course and we had to climb through different rope obstacles, trying not to fall.
The third day was my favorite as we did abseiling, rock climbing and beach games. Abseiling was scary as you are so high up on the mountains and you need to jump off a little rock shelf and it
felt amazing as you climbed down. For beach games, we made sand castles in the theme of medieval times and we played frisbee. We played Jumblies in the evening. Jumblies is where you find words around the site and unjumble them. I liked it because not only can you run around and do exercise, but it also triggers your brain to think.
On day 4, we started our morning by going to a rocky beach and trying to find fossils. We got ice cream on our way back thanks to the teachers. We had an unforgettable afternoon paddleboarding as we all fell into the lake. Our evening was crate stacking and it was fun as people threw crates at us and we needed to stack a crate tower. After the time was up, people pushed our tower over and we were floating in the air and it was fun.
On the last and final day, we went kayaking, similar to paddleboarding. We packed up and left Kilve.
Kilve was very fun and unforgettable and I hope the coming year 7s will enjoy it too.
