The Atherton Award recognises students who show entrepreneurial skills within a STEM subject. We are excited to announce that Jennifer Z (Year 9) has won the award with her innovative Spike Cup, a cup which will change colour when a drink has been spiked.
Today I am delighted to recognise Jennifer as the winner of The Atherton Award. Jennifer designed the Spike Cup, the base of which changes colour when a drink has been spiked. Following an iterative design process, Jennifer has created a new technology. With this start-up capital I’m excited to see it progress to a full model and go through product testing to get to a design that is ready to patent.
Not being afraid to ask for help is a key skill to cultivate as a young entrepreneur. Don’t be afraid to reach out to those who could mentor you. Remember people will always be impressed that you took a risk and believed in yourself to start something.
Congratulations Jennifer and congratulations to everyone who entered. From innovative new product designs to a carbon capture prototype, Oxford High students have entrepreneurial spirit in bucket loads and I can’t wait to watch, and maybe one day invest, in the incredible businesses you might build!” Amber Atherton
