Higher Education Day

23 June 2021

Written by Aisling, Year 12

The Higher Education Day was a very interesting and engaging experience, giving us the opportunity to hear from a wide range of experts on a multitude of topics. Morning talks introduced us to Russell Group universities and the benefits of studying at them, and we learnt more about not just their role as teaching institutions but also as leading bodies in research.

After a delicious BBQ lunch in the Ada Benson Building we then were able to take part in a carousel activity which included talks on gap years, interview techniques, studying abroad and studying in Scotland. I chose to attend the talk on university interviews which was particularly informative as it helped reassure everyone about the inevitable nerve-wracking experience and provided plenty of practical advice.

Throughout the day we were also introduced to a platform made by Dr Stacey, helping us to formulate and collect information for our personal statements and references as well as having the opportunity to speak directly with our form tutors about our future plans. I really enjoyed the whole day as it helped inspire and inform me about my next steps. Thank you so much to Miss Pallas-Brown and all the teachers involved with setting up and running the event!
