This academic year, with the introduction of our new Behaviour and Rewards system, we have introduced the Head’s Award which is given to students who have made exceptional contributions to school life, through excellent individual work, personal achievement or an exceptional one-off act.
Huge congratulations to the following students who have received a Head’s Award during the first half of Spring term.
- Sidra (Year 11) Sidra took first place in the semi-final of the GDST Chrystall Carter prize this week, seeing off competition from RHS Bath, Howell’s, Northampton, and Shrewsbury. Sidra spoke for seven minutes on the topic, ‘What Matters to Society is the Here and Now, not the Future,’ and her outstandingly engaged and passionate speech – delivered entirely from memory! – was described by the judges as a ‘tour de force.’ Even more impressive is the fact that Sidra managed to prepare and to practise this winning speech immediately after her mocks.
- Zelah (Year 9) For her continued work with the Balistreri lab.
- Esther (Year 12) Esther took the initiative to organise and run a wonderful evening of poetry for students in Y10-Y13. The aim of the evening was to give students a space to share their work or the work of their favourite poets, and Esther did a brilliant job of creating a warm, supportive atmosphere in which to showcase the creativity of our writers. Staff were also delighted to attend and to read, and we will be making this a regular fixture on the OHS calendar. Thank you and well done, Esther!
- Flo (Year 8) An outstanding piece of work in Science. Flo has really gone above and beyond my expectations or hopes with her series of drawings and explanations of organs of the body. Beautifully illustrated, clearly explained and bound together in a remarkable codex. A truly brilliant work of scholarship.
- Lixuan (Year 10) Lixuan has passed her ARSM performing diploma on the violin. This requires a solo recital of 30 minutes of music, at a level considerably higher than Grade 8.
- Ilaria (Year 10) Thank you for your service to the OHS community by producing the artwork that made our Careers Event programme truly stand out. The programme went out to hundreds of people!
- Lexi (Year 8) participated in two classes at the annual Oxford Music Festival, and was awarded a distinction in the first (non-competitive) class, and won the second class, along with another distinction. She has also been asked as a result to perform her solo piece at Wolfson College, which is a great opportunity.
- Haley (S6) entered the ‘Open Solo’ competition for all performers under the age of 18 on any instrument in the Oxford Music Festival, and was awarded the Helen Goodworth Memorial Award, which is the top prize in this category.
- The following students have worked exceptionally hard completing their project as Student Ambassadors for Teaching and Learning. They have shown superb perseverance throughout the year-long project, and have developed and conducted rigorous educational research projects. They presented professionally to OHS staff, and at the collaborative conference with Northampton High School. Well done to: Aarya (Year 11), Hajira (Year 11), Bea (Year 11), Zed (Year 11), Taisia (Year 8), Tvisha (Year 9), Angela (Year 11), Ruby (Year 11), Maria (Year 11), Molly (Year 8), Druvi (Year 8) and Amy (Year 10).
