Head’s Awards

23 May 2025

At Oxford High School, we believe in celebrating the achievements, character and contributions of every student. The Head’s Awards are a key part of our rewards structure which recognise exceptional attributes and actions students demonstrate, whether in school or beyond. It’s our way of celebrating achievement, initiative and the remarkable impact our students are making on the world around them.

Ana (year 10) was recently invited by the Management Committee of Bicester Town & District Rifle & Pistol Club to attend the annual AGM where she received five awards in the 10m IAP and air pistol categories. This is a wonderful achievement, not least because Ana has not even been training for a year yet!

Shambavi (year 9) competed in the European Senior Women’s Chess Championship. Her resilience was tested as she faced storms, heavy rain and flooding on the island, yet still won 1 game, drew 6 games and lost 4, including a draw against a Grand Master in a game that lasted 8 hours. Overall, she played well and gained experience against top European players.

Emilia (year 10) applied for places at the Saturday music courses at the junior departments of Guildhall School of Music and Drama, the Royal Academy of Music, and the Royal College of Music for the academic year 2025-26. Emilia was offered places at all three, with the Royal College of Music commenting on what and “incredibly intelligent, musical and creative human” Emilia is. Emilia has decided to take up the place at the Royal College of Music.

At the end of April, Alice (year 10) participated in the LIMUN High School Model United Nations conference in London, and was awarded the ‘most diplomatic’ award at the end of the two days – a fabulous achievement!

Sophia (year 8) was part of a group of five girls who competed in the National Rhythmic Gymnastics Championship, that brought together the top 10 Espoir teams from across the country. Sophia and her group delivered outstanding performances in both of their routines, earning a bronze medal for their ball routine and a silver for their free routine – placing Sophia and her team first overall

Isla (year 10) achieved a silver medal at the national ice skating competition, Skate London, over Easter, and more recently for winning Gold at a national skating competition in Guildford.

Alienor (year 9) achieved a Gold Certificate in the Grey Kangaroo, a follow-on round of the Intermediate Maths Challenge.

Charlotte (year 10) and Amy (year 11) For achieving a Gold Certificate in the Pink Kangaroo, a follow-on round of the Intermediate Maths Challenge

Congratulations to Hannah (year 10) on achieving a Certificate of Distinction in the Hamilton Mathematics Olympiad.

Lockheed Martin hosts Code Quest is an annual computer programming competition where teams of two to three high school students work together to solve problems by using Java, Python, C#, and/or C++ programming to complete the “quest”. The problem set consists of 20 to 30 challenging problems created by Lockheed Martin engineers and computer programmers. Alicia (year 9) entered Lockheed Martin’s Code Quest coding contest at the start of March, 2025, and took first place in the UK in the Novice division.

You presented confidently and spoke beautifully,  and the subject matter was cleverly devised and very well researched. Thank you, and well done.

Congratulations to Angela (year 10) on the beautiful cello performance that you gave at the Academic Scholarship event.  It was perfectly judged with the audience in mind, and really showcased your musical talent. Well done!

Well done to Emilia (year 7) for putting together a remarkable podcast for the academic scholarship event. You presented the recording beautifully and eloquently, and it was clear how much work you had put into researching the invention of the radio.  Mr Smith was most impressed by your knowledge and calm but enthusiastic demeanor.  A very well deserved Head’s Award.

Sophie (year 12) did a fantastic job at coordinating the Mental Health Awareness week assembly and leading a number of other student-led initiatives during the week. Thank you Sophie for helping so many students across all year groups.

Isabel (year 9) took part in the Oxford Town and Gown (3K Junior) Race, winning the 14-15 y/o category.

Our music scholars gave some wonderful solo and lead performances at this term’s Sheldonian Concern. Congratulations to Eleanor (year 13), Tanya (year 13), Teresa (year 13), Beatrix (year 13), and Maria (year 13).

So many of our students gave their time to help with the school production of Dido and Aeneas, be it through costume design, direction, solo roles, and musical accompaniments.
