Head’s Awards

12 July 2024

Head’s Awards are given for exceptional performances both inside and outside of school. Congratulations to the following students:

Jennifer, year 10, is the winner of the Safety and Security category at the prestigious national TeenTech Awards 2024. Jennifer designed a spike coaster that detects if your drink has been spiked. The judges were impressed with her ingenuity, coding skills and the real-life possibilities of the product.

Charlotte, year 9, qualified for the English Schools Track and Field Championships in the 800m for the Junior Girls age group. Charlotte will represent Oxfordshire in this race and will compete against all other students who have qualified across England.

Alexandra, year 12, has undertaken the Basic Adult Certificate in Bee Keeping (awarded by British Bee Keeping Association, BBKA). She welcomed an external assessor to our apiary and undertook a hive inspection. This practical, oral exam involved answering questions about colony management, diseases and pests and good practice. It culminated in Alex constructing her own frame with foundation (showing great carpentry skills!). She impressed the assessor with her modest approach and knowledge. She is the first student of Bee Club to be put forward for this prestigious adult award.

Margaux and Rose, year 8,  have been assessed for the Junior Certificate in Bee Keeping (run by BBKA, British Bee Keeping Association). For this, they had a practical, oral exam with an external assessor where they opened up a hive, manipulated frames, explained pests and diseases and identified types of comb and bee. They also made a beautiful model of a worker, queen and drone which will go on and be used for teaching Bee Club members. They were true pioneers and ambassadors for Bee Club and the school.

Sophia, year 7,  recently competed and excelled at the English Rhythmic Gymnastics Championship. Her group came fourth overall at the top level, and she is now the Under 12 Overall English Champion in Level 3. She has also qualified to compete in the British Rhythmic Gymnastics Championship. Many congratulations to Sophia

Aarya, year 12,  has received two ‘highly commended’ awards for A Level History essay competitions, one was awarded by Oriel College, Oxford and the other was awarded by Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge. This represents a considerable achievement in a very competitive environment and will have represented work, above and beyond, that which is expected. Aarya truly embodies ‘going beyond’.

Ines, year 12, for her prize-winning entry into the Fitzwilliam College Land Economy Essay Competition.

Phoebe, year 9, for her determination, impressive work ethic, and willingness to try have been clear for all to see this year. Well done.

Maia, year 12, has been exceptional this year in her support of students and parents. She has been a terrific role model and have been an asset to the school.

Isabel, year 12, for representing OHS in a Schools Equestrian Games qualifier in early June and qualified for the National Championships by finishing in 2nd place. The Championships will be held in September. Last year she qualified and finished 8th nationally so we wish her every success for this coming September.

Jessica, year 12, for being selected to play GU18 county cricket against Northamptonshire.

Chloe, year 12, for her contributions to surgeon Professor Lee Chuen Neng’s forthcoming poetry anthology. Chloe’s contribution to the creative process of the anthology has been excellent experience for her in collaborating on writing, and is testament to her dedication to writing and creativity outside of the classroom.

Chloe also receives a Head’s Award for her leadership, creativity and direction of the Year 12 production ‘In Juliet’s Garden’ by Judith Elliot MacDonald. Chloe has excelled in her role as an Oxford High School Drama Scholar.

Alya, year 7, has been admitted to the University of John Hopkins Center for Talented Youth with High Honours. An incredible achievement!

Anjali, year 8,  competed in the Blenheim Palace Junior Rowing Regatta on Saturday 18th May placing first in single sculls and 2nd in quad rowing in U13 category
