The beginning of the autumn term is always slightly nostalgic for me, watching the new Year 7s arrive full of zeal. This year I experienced my last first day at Oxford High School, something which made me reflect on my time throughout the school, how it has moulded me into who I am today and provided me with unforgettable memories.

This term we have been able to enjoy a number of House Events, themed around nature and the seasons of the year. During House Music, we heard a Counting Stars mashup from Ares, a fun performance of Umbrella from Zeus, a powerful rendition of We Will Rock You from Athena and the groovy September by Earth, Wind and Fire from Poseidon. Despite them all having merit Athena won. Once again Athena came out on top in House Canvas, with their beautiful autumnal drawing which depicted an owl, the symbol of Athena.

This term, many Sixth Formers took on organising conferences in numerous fields including Politics, Economics and Classics. We were fortunate to hear from many experts including Helen Thomas who spoke at both the Economics and Politics conferences. We also received some very convincing debates on why Brexit was a mistake from Alastair Campbell. Although a speaker was unfortunately not able to attend the Classics Conference, a Sixth Former, Iphigenie T (Year 13) courageously stepped up to speak about her ERP and did so very eloquently. A classic example of an OHS girl!

Coming into the second half of term, we were able to experience a Diwali Mela which had traditional Indian food, alongside the opportunity to buy Indian jewellery and get henna tattoos.

We still have lots to look forward to such as the Addams Family Upper School Musical, taking place this week and House Dance towards the end of term. Of course, Christmas is approaching; the most anticipated time of the school year as it includes events such as the Staff Panto, the Staff Quiz and Form Decorating. Knowing this will be my last time participating in and watching these events breaks my heart, but it just means I’ll appreciate them all the more this year.
