Head Girl’s Blog

5 March 2025

Written by Jess, Head Girl

Although it was slightly painful to wake up many more hours earlier than I usually do during the holidays, the grey and depressing British weather had seemed to take a turn for the better that day. For the first time in a long time I felt the sun and it was a relief. Throughout the first week back at school I enjoyed studying in the sun, going outside in just a t-shirt and biking to and from school without full waterproofs for a change. I and many others around the school are hoping this is a good omen for the term, especially since Year 13 have just started their mocks and Year 11 are beginning their final studies before their GCSEs kick off. To all those getting through the slog of exam season I wish you the best of luck and hope your grades reflect all the hard work you dedicate to your subjects.

To those who don’t know me, I’m Jess and I’m the new Head Girl at OHS. I’ve been with the school for 13 years now, ever since reception, and know it inside and out. Although I’ve been here a while I never seem to get bored or feel like I’m missing out, since the longer I stay the more I feel I gain and enjoy. I am currently studying and thoroughly enjoying Religious Studies, Maths, Chemistry and Biology as my A levels, but am most enjoying seeing the passion my teachers fill with when they get to teach their subjects at this level. I am so excited and grateful to be starting this term with all other prefects behind me, everyone on the team has passion, knowledge and love for different aspects of OHS which you can read about in their own sections on a separate news post.

Although academic focus is something OHS strives for, it would be an injustice not to mention the hundreds of other excellent events that happen around the school. To finish the last half term on a good note, OHS saw the much loved House Lip Sync competition with Athena rightfully gaining the win with their incredible performance of Dynamite. Other events include the insightful Year 13 ERP evening, the French trip to Knightsbridge, the annual Suter Piano Festival, a brilliant Careers and Higher education networking event and the Oxford Food Hub volunteering project which was hugely successful. Of course, all the credit goes to the Staff, prefects and students who make these possible through their own passion which makes OHS the lively and busy school it is.

Ad Lucem,

Jess
