This Autumn half term, fondly thought of as the run-up to the Christmas holidays, is promising to be packed full of exciting events and competitions.
The Oxford High School Freegle community has been extended from just the upper school to include years 7-9. This is a testament to our commitment as a school to reduce unnecessary waste, and I urge parents as well to get involved in the general Oxford Freegle community as it’s a great way to declutter and avoid your well-loved possessions going to landfill!
Oxford High is part of the Oxford Schools Sustainability Network and on Monday 18th November, six Eco Committee students, including myself, attended their Mock COP held at the town hall, at which we represented Uganda in a closely paralleled rendition of COP 29 happening in Azerbaijan as we spoke.
Friday 22nd November was a non-uniform day where students were encouraged to wear green and/or sustainably-sourced clothing and bring in a pound for the Just One Tree charity, to whom we donated enough to sponsor the planting of a total of over 420 trees! In addition, we invited the younger students from our prep school to join us in planting trees together.
Looking ahead, we also have the House Dance Competition to look forward to. Each house has been practicing hard, and I know the competition is going to be fierce! It’s always amazing to see the creativity and energy that our students bring to the stage. Whether you’re participating or cheering from the sidelines, it’s a fantastic opportunity for everyone to come together and celebrate our school spirit. As a proud member of Zeus, I can’t wait to see which house takes home the trophy!
Last but by no means least, in the back of everyone’s mind thrums the excitement of the ever-nearer Christmas OHS traditions including form decorating, foreign language carol singing and the sixth form-led staff pantomime, the theme of which remains a secret until the very last second!
