The Summer Term at OHS comes with exam season, and it’s inevitable that there is stress involved, but as part of mental health awareness we had a great assembly on managing that stress and anxiety. For those not doing national exams, the exam period was only 1 or 2 weeks, so the school quickly returned to its natural state, which is one full of energy. Whether they were the national exams or internal exams, the school was still buzzing, even if it was simply in the form of students’ final moments before an exam in which everyone was loudly spewing facts at each other and speculating about what questions they think will be on the paper.

Year 13 were not only facing their A Level exams but also the end of their time at OHS; the leavers’ video was both hilarious and emotional. Watching the teachers take part in TikTok trends, and the students make typical OHS jokes really showcased the school community.

Alongside the leaver’s video was of course Muck Up Day, a day when all students fear being ambushed by Year 13s with water guns as they enter the school. A friend and I had been convinced we had managed to escape this, only to be hit with water in the middle of assembly with nowhere to run to. The most shocking of the Year 13s jokes was Finn the Goat, who graced us with his presence on the school field and was gawked at by very many students.

As we move towards the end of term, we have seen a very courageous stand against Climate Change and the government’s inability to address the crisis with a climate protest in Summertown on Friday lunchtime, led by Lucinda and the rest of the Eco Committee. We also enjoyed House Just Dance, in which we enjoyed Maneater from Zeus, What Makes You Beautiful from Aries, YMCA from Poseidon (the winners), and Rasputin from Athena – which due to its demanding nature made me tired just watching!

Later in the term we have to look forward to several dramatic performances including House Drama in which we will be seeing the stories of Les Misérables, Mamma Mia, Legally Blonde and The Little Mermaid told in just 7 minutes. Additionally, there will be the much-anticipated Lower School musical, Matilda, coming later this term.  As we move towards the end of the summer term there is tons to look forward to so make sure you make the most of the last few weeks before the holidays!
