Head Girl’s Blog

This week both A Level and GCSE exams finally finished, drawing the exam season at OHS to a close. Freedom! We, as students, now have an opportunity to learn without any assessments or exams waiting around the corner, which is one of the things that makes this time of year one of my favourite parts of the school year, something slightly more reliable than warm temperatures and cloudless skies.

It is at this point that we can really explore to the fullest what interests us at school. You now have the time to read that book that you’ve been wanting to read for a month, but have been putting off reading because you have too much work to do, you have the time to participate in all events at school, you have the time to research something that you find fascinating. It is at this moment that we can all move from looking towards our next exam, to looking towards what the summer holidays and our next year at school will bring us.

So, I urge you all to take advantage of your time now and to take a moment to think about how you will make the most of the rest of this term and your summer holidays. Make plans with your friends and family, create a reading list or write down some film recommendations so you’ll always have something to turn to if you feel yourself getting bored, think about what you want to have done by September and either do it or make a plan to do it. That way you’ll never feel like you wasted your summer.

If you’re feeling at all nervous about what next year will bring you, remember some of the tips and tricks that you learnt in the assembly on the 30th June. Keep in mind that we are all muddling through life together and that your teachers will be there to support you.

But before you go on thinking about the summer holidays or even the next academic year, remember that there are still many exciting things happening at school. We have the Lower School’s production of High School Musical, Sports Day and House Drama to name a few. It will be wonderful to see the school back together again, all participating in these fun events. So, make sure that you muck in and get involved.
