Written by Alice and Emilia, Year 7
On Thursday 16th June, Year 7 visited Hampton Court. Hampton Court is a 500-year-old royal palace, located in London. The original Tudor Hampton Court Palace was begun by Cardinal Wolsey in the early 16th century, but it soon attracted the attention of Henry VIII, who brought all his six wives here.
When we first arrived, we had a tour of the inside of the palace, some of the rooms we looked in included; The Great Hall, the drawing room and many more. We looked at many paintings and what they meant. We also went down what is called the ‘Haunted Gallery’ named after Catherine Howard. We ate lunch in the gardens under the hot sun, and afterwards enjoyed some ice cream!
After lunch, we watched some people play real tennis – which is like a mixture of squash and tennis – then we visited the kitchens which servants had used in the Tudor period. We learnt about their usual diet (a large proportion of this was meat) through an audio guide. We walked down different alleyways where servants would have hurried around, cooking or cleaning for Henry VIII. Then, we went into the maze and had a go finding our way out! Lastly we went to the gift shop to buy some souvenirs.
Our favourite part has to be visiting the kitchens! We had so much fun and we would definitely go again!
