On the eve of Wednesday 6th July, we held a very special celebration as we welcomed Year 13 and their parents for their At Home and Farewell Assembly.
Gathering in the Main Hall, the evening began with a beautiful duet performance by Ottilie and Lizzie, singing For Good from the musical ‘Wicked’. We then heard the most wonderful and inspiring speeches from Miss Pallas-Brown and from our guest of honour, Fiona Hardcastle, editor of The Daily Mail and previous editor of The Telegraph. Fiona especially honed in on her experience as a woman in the journalism industry and related this to our students, strongly emphasising to our Year 13s that they can achieve anything they truly want, no matter what comes in their way.
One by one, Year 13 received an envelope of their awards, commendations and a sunflower pendant from their form tutor. After a fantastic round of applause, our previous Head Girl, Lizzie, then presented a very moving speech in which she talked about what makes this year group so remarkable (and there are certainly plenty of examples to back this up, for example when Lizzie kicked off our September Open Day with an address to prospective parents!), and all the memories that will be cherished across the year group, from the incredible friendships that were made to the unending support and care their teachers have provided during what can be a rather stressful time.
The assembly wrapped up with a Leavers’ video directed by Stella and Georgia which was full of humour and fun, perfectly capturing this year group, followed by a superb performance of Bob Chilcott’s Irish Blessing by Lizzie. The Hall was filled with an incredible applause; we will truly miss you Year 13 and we wish you all the very best for the next chapter.
