Educational Visits

3 May 2015

“Learning at Oxford High Junior School is fun, enjoyable and we always go home at the end of the day having learned something new. We are encouraged to go further in our learning and to become the best we can be.” Year 6 student

In every year group, the teachers plan a curriculum in which learning is firmly based on a set of progressive skills. Wherever possible, the topic will be used to link together the core subjects such as literacy and numeracy. PE, languages, science, music, drama and art are taught by specialist teachers from both Junior and Senior schools who work together to develop vibrant confident girls with the personal skills to meet challenges.

The curriculum gives a real life context to our students. Educational trips, visiting speakers and links with the community provide a platform for learning and enrich an already dynamic curriculum.

During the course of the academic year we aim to provide trips that link in with science, languages and the topics that are studied in class. Being in Oxford, we are very fortunate to have a wealth of educational experiences on our doorstep. Favourites of students and staff include visits to the Ashmolean Museum, Pitt Rivers Museum and Oxford Castle. In addition, our proximity to London enables us to enjoy visits to some prestigious venues. Children in Years Five and Six are also given the opportunity to go on exciting residential trips to PGL for example.
