Earlier this week, our Year 7, 8, and 9 Mandarin students put their language skills (and singing!) into practice with some fun Chinese music workshops.
In celebration of Chinese New Year, we welcomed the band ‘Transition’ – a British rock indie band from Bristol whose music fuses Eastern and Western styles. Brothers Josh and Jesse talked about their extensive and awesome experiences in China, and we enjoyed a lively singing session with them as we sang along to some of their songs.
During the workshop, our students had 20 minutes to write their own lyrics, in Chinese, to any topic they choose, and perform this to a beat from one of Transition’s songs. Everyone engaged very well with the workshop, and there were some fantastic performances from the students, with topics ranging from food and shopping to hobbies and relationships. The hall was filled with cheerful music, the students’ laughters and, of course, their own versions of the band’s song ‘ 对不起,我的中文不好 ‘(which means ‘Sorry, my Chinese is not good!).
Thank you to Transition and to our Mandarin Department for providing such an entertaining language-learning experience. 谢谢!
