Liza Sheremetyeva, Year 9, competed at the 25th European Youth Chess Championships in Porec, Croatia in the Under 14 Girls section. She was amongst 838 children aged 8-18 from 41 European Countries who had all won through their local qualification tournaments to reach this stage. Liza describes the experience “I had a hard start of 0 out of 3 in the first rounds, but then carried on to win 5 more games and finished with a great score of 5 out of 9 which turned out to be the best score in the whole English team! I really enjoyed the tournament although it was quite tiring and challenging. I am very glad that I got to go to such an interesting event where there were many new people to meet, and I would love to go to one again”.
