On Thursday 20th March, the most exciting event of the school year took place – the Charity Staff Football Match! The grounds were buzzing with anticipation, and the warm sunshine reassured us that spring truly is on its way. As our talented staff members prepared themselves for the most important day of their football career, students queued up for their front row seats, eager for the long-awaited match to kick off.
The first half did not disappoint, with some fantastic goals from the skilful players and some brilliant saves from both keepers. The action, however, did not stop during the half-time break, as whilst the two teams spoke strategy, the spectators were kept entertained by the fabulous OHS Dance Team. The second half was action-packed, with the staff members giving their all out on the pitch. The match resulted in a 3-2 victory for the bibs team, but the crowd were dissatisfied and demanded more. After deliberation with the referee, it was decided that penalties were the way to go. Each team took their penalties and with both the bibs and non-bibs having scored 1 goal each, it all came down to the battle of the chemistry teachers. With Mr Sobey in goal and Mr Abbott taking the penalty, this was the deciding moment. But alas, it wasn’t to be for Mr Sobey and the ball managed to sneak past his left foot – the non-bibs were victorious!
This event was a smashing success, and we would just like to thank our wonderful and committed staff members who trained hard and left their hearts out on the pitch in aid of our newly chosen Sixth Form Charity, SSNAP, a charity local to Oxford based at the JR Hospital that is committed to supporting families with premature babies. Overall, the fantastic support shown by our spectators allowed us to raise a whopping £474.75 which we are certain SSNAP will be incredibly grateful for. We are all looking forward to doing our part in supporting this amazing charity over the next year and we cannot wait for our next charity event!
