Cèilidh at OHS

21 November 2023

Written by Naomi and Alice, Year 13

Oxford High School is having its very first Cèilidh for Y7-13 and staff! A Cèilidh is a traditional Scottish/Irish dance that involves lots of spinning and clapping.

It can get quite complicated, however Oxford High’s very own Miss Barbour will be giving instructions (also known as ‘calling’) so that no one gets lost. It is happening on Thursday 30th November from 4:00-6:00pm. This is a great opportunity to relax and have a break from any stress you are facing. Come with your friends or to meet new people, there is sure to be lots of laughter and good fun to be had!

The Cèilidh is happening in order to raise money for the charity Go Make A Difference (GoMAD), which relies completely on donations and allows volunteers to get involved in a range of projects such as giving menstrual health talks to women, building water tanks, planting trees and much more. A couple of OHS students worked with GoMAD in Tanzania during the Summer of 2022 and saw first-hand the great work that they do.

We will not be charging an entry fee for the Cèilidh, however we are suggesting that a donation is made. There will be a bucket at the door on the evening of the event, we have also set up a GoFundMe page to allow people to donate electronically. Please follow this link to find the GoFundMe page, we appreciate any donations that people are able to contribute, as even a little money goes a long way (£3 is enough to treat someone with Malaria).

We look forward to seeing you there!
