We were over the moon to see so many of you last night at our prestigious careers event, ‘Set Sail for your Future’. With speakers and panellists from a wide range of industries, from engineering to journalism and law to science, the event exposed our students to a variety of professions and allowed them to put their most burning careers questions to the experts.
Following a welcome address from Mrs Gardiner Legge, the night kicked off with a talk from Floyd Woodrow MBE DCM, a former Special Forces Soldier who has an international reputation for running leadership and elite performance training programmes. In the thought-provoking session, Floyd encouraged every girl to identify their ‘Super North Star’, develop a roadmap for getting there, and consider the strategies they may need along the way.
The evening then moved on to the panel sessions, allowing the girls to pick and choose the industries on which to focus their attention. Every one of the eight panels proved popular with our student community; some couldn’t wait to hear how the vaccine researchers at the Jenner Institute spend their days, whilst others learnt about the ins and outs of a career in consulting. The range of professions represented was remarkable and we heard many words of wisdom from our panellists.
The evening wrapped up with an address from Aduke Onafowokan, founder of The Sister Sister Global Network and champion of diversity and inclusion. Her message was one of self-belief, positivity and perseverance, and provided a fitting conclusion to an inspirational evening.
Thank you to our speakers and panellists for sharing your experience and expertise, our students for attending and engaging, and our staff for their support in the run-up to the event and on the night itself.
A very special mention goes to Dr Strobel for organising the event and working tirelessly to ensure its success, as well as to our Careers Assistants, Hannah and Aisling, for their support.
