Last term, a number of our Year 13 physicists participated in Round 1 of the British Physics Olympiad. Alongside 1,606 students hailing from 270 schools from the UK and overseas, they sat a (dreadfully long and demanding) 3-hour paper.
We are extremely pleased and proud to announce that Kitty J (Top Gold), Clara N (Gold), Olivia K (Silver), Beth W (Bronze II), Liberty T (Bronze II), and Siobhan W (Commendation) have all received awards from the competition. In particular, Kitty’s Top Gold medal makes her eligible to participate in Round 2 of the Olympiad, from which the judges will select students to represent Britain in the the International Physics Olympiad. Interestingly enough, Kitty’s father was on the team back in the 80s!
The British Olympiad papers are designed to challenge a student’s knowledge, preparation, and ability as it stretches and challenges the country’s top young physicists.
A huge round of applause and a massive congratulations to Kitty, Clara, Olivia, Beth, Liberty, and Siobhan for your fantastic achievements. This is no mean feat and you have definitely showed to the judges the prowess and talent of OHS girls.
