Oxford High prep kicked off our first football festival on 12th Feb and what a success.
All of the local primary schools came together for an afternoon of football. We were joined by Woodfarm Primary School and Windmill Primary School, both in Headington for a day of fun, competition, and teamwork.
The day contributed to our GDST Futures Report highlighting the barriers many girls face in pursuing their interests, particularly in sport. The girls experienced football in a non-competitive, girls-only setting and helped to avoid the societal expectations of the sport (amongst others). The report shows this, mixed in with peer-pressure, often leads to girls stepping away from sports and activities they once enjoyed.
Well…We’ve bent it like Beckham but here’s to bending it like Bonmati – definitely got a ring to it.
