The annual Baroness Warnock Concert took place on Wednesday 15th May, which honours Baroness Mary Warnock’s contributions to the school during her time as Head, while allowing our staff to share their musical talents.
Baroness Mary Warnock was Head of OHS from 1966 to 1972. She had an interest in moral philosophy and a passion for music. She was a highly influential figure in some controversial areas of public policy in the 1970s, including Special Educational Needs, Human Fertilisation and Embryology.
Parents and students were welcomed with drinks and then the music began with an energetic piano, clarinet and cello piece by Brahms, featuring one of our piano teachers, Bethe Levvy, along with our very own Dr Foster on the clarinet and a visiting musician and friend of Bethe, Trevor Burley on the cello.
This was followed by piano pieces by Janacék, played by another of our piano teachers, Diana Hinds. Dr Foster then played a César Franck piece on the organ. We repaired to the corridor for more drinks during the interval, which was a great opportunity for performers and audience to chat with one another. In the second half of the concert we heard Brenna Tin, also one of our piano teachers, playing another piece by César Franck. We then had a piano trio by Debussy, featuring Jacqui Miles, Trevor Burley and Bethe Levvy, and, to finish, an amazingly percussive piano duet by Francis Poulenc, played by Bethe Levvy and Diana Hinds. We rounded off the evening with more drinks and chats in the corridor!
