The annual Baroness Warnock Concert took place on Tuesday 28th January, which honours Baroness Mary Warnock’s contributions to the school during her time as Head, while allowing our staff to share their musical talents.
Baroness Mary Warnock was Head of OHS from 1966 to 1972. She had an interest in moral philosophy and a passion for music. She was a highly influential figure in some controversial areas of public policy in the 1970s, including Special Educational Needs, Human Fertilisation and Embryology.
Dr Foster, Director of Music, began the evening with an organ Fantasia by Bach. The programme included a world première of a flute piece by Jonathan Slade, played by the composer and accompanied by Diana Hinds, one of our piano teachers. In addition we were treated to songs for alto, viola and piano by Brahms, some viola and piano music by Vaughan Williams, a piano piece by Francis Poulenc, and three Hungarian dances for piano duet. A thoroughly enriching evening, and an opportunity for some of our students to see and hear their teachers performing together.
Students and their families will be most welcome to come to the Solo Showcase in the music hall on Wednesday 5th February at 6pm. This will be a great opportunity to hear our more advanced students singing and playing. There will be no charge for entry, and refreshments will be served.
