Students across OHS were involved in Anti-Bullying Week. Year 13 Wellbeing Prefects led a thought-provoking assembly to introduce the week’s theme: ‘Make a Noise About Bullying.’ The assembly served as a rallying call for students to actively engage in activities aimed at fostering a culture of respect, kindness and support within the school community.
Year 7 students creatively expressed their commitment to a bully-free environment by decorating t-shirts with powerful anti-bullying slogans. These striking shirts, adorned with messages of unity and empowerment, served as a visible reminder of the collective determination to stand up against bullying.
In addition to the t-shirt project, Year 7 Wellbeing Reps organized a Friendship Workshop for other students. The workshop focused on equipping students with effective strategies to nurture and heal friendships, emphasising the importance of empathy, communication and understanding. Through engaging discussions, students learnt valuable skills to create and maintain positive relationships, fostering a supportive atmosphere throughout the school.
Throughout the week, various awareness-raising activities and discussions took place in PSHCE lessons, promoting open dialogue about the different forms of bullying and the role each student plays in fostering a culture of inclusivity.
During Anti-Bullying Week, we got a chance to talk to the older years about any problems we may have. It was great to do some trust and friendship exercises and we felt really connected afterwards. Hannah R, Year 7
It was great to have a week where students were able to explore what bullying is and reflect on the theme of the week which was ‘make a noise’ and what it meant to them. Year 7s spent lesson time looking at the difference between bullying and banter and how they need to reflect on the impact of their words.
They then went on to decorate t-shirts with quotes spreading thoughtfulness and happy vibes, wearing them with pride! In addition to this, their amazing Wellbeing Reps organised sessions for mindfulness and friendship advice from Year 9s. It is important to remember that these messages are not just for this week but that empathy and respect are at the heart of our community and that everyone should be valued!
