Tennis
Last week, our U11 and U10 tennis teams visited Headington on Tuesday for first to 10 singles and doubles competitions. Our U10s swept in the singles competition, with Sara winning 10-2, Bella winning 10-5, Mary winning 10-1, and Valerie winning 10-1. They would also go on to win both of their doubles matches, with the pair of Mary and Sara winning 10-0 and Bella & Valerie winning 10-3.
Meanwhile, our U11 players faced fierce competition in their singles matches and lost 3-10, 4-10, 4-10, and 7-10 to Headington. Results in doubles were split, with Bea and Elizabeth showing a lot of improvement despite their 5-10 defeat. But all was not lost, as Jessie and Caterina managed to finish the day with a 11-9 win in their doubles match against Headington’s top tennis duo.
Excellent resiliency, effort and class all around. Thank you very much to the players for such an excellent afternoon of tennis!
After the long bank holiday weekend, it was straight back into action for our tennis players. On Tuesday our wonderful U10 tennis team attended a match against the Dragon School. We were extremely lucky with the weather and the students played their hearts out. Over the course of 30 minutes each pair played three games against the opposition.
The students did extremely well to manage to score their own games and work co-operatively with their opponents.
Overall Oxford High took the fixture winning 5 out of 9 matches. A special mention goes to Mary and Sara for winning all three of their games.
Cricket
On Thursday, our U11 teams travelled to Headington for a Cricket fixture. The players were in good spirits and looking forward to playing together for the first time this term.
Upon arrival, Headington could only field one team, so Team Storm batted and Team Thunder bowled. Some outstanding batting by Jessie who hit 2 fantastic fours, whilst all the players took singles brilliantly. The communication between the batters was a focus for the past week in training so well done to all the players who batted. Team Storm finished on a score of 279.
Team Thunder took on the responsibility of bowling against Headington. Esther, Felicity and Sara bowled consistently well, making it very difficult for Headington to score runs. They did, however, manage to score a few fours that bounced pass out fielders on the boundary. Headington scored a total was 291 which secured them the win!
Esther was voted as bowler of the match and Jessie voted the batter of the match. Well done to everyone who played!
