Author Lisa Williamson came to Oxford High School Library on World Book Day to judge the highly-competitive and imaginative Year 7 ‘dress as a book character of your choice’ competition and to talk to Years 7, 8 and 9 girls about her debut novel ‘The Art Of Being Normal’, a sensitive heart-warming and powerful coming of age tale combined with a transgender struggle with identity. The book has been shortlisted for numerous regional book awards and has recently been announced on the shortlist for Waterstones Children’s Book Prize. The girls loved hearing about Lisa’s approach to writing and even some Year 10 girls sneaked in for a private Q&A afterwards, much to their excitement. There will be many girls longing for Lisa’s next novel due in 2017!
