Oxford High School GDST is celebrating its 150th Anniversary and its best GCSE results ever with over 59% of results awarded at grade 9, with students demonstrating not only academic excellence but a bold spirit of curiosity and ambition that defines the school’s ethos. 40% of students achieved eight or more grade 9’s each.
This year, 59% of all GCSEs awarded were Grade 9s, with 81% at Grade 8 or 9, and 94% at Grade 7 or above. These results are a testament to the school’s commitment to deep learning, personal growth, and fearless exploration.
We congratulate an incredible six pupils, Yolanda, Angie, Hayley, Jenny, Cerys and Chloe who achieved eleven 9s / A* or more. A further nine pupils celebrated ten 9s / A* or more including Phoebe, Sophie, Kyra, Ahana, Sarah, Valerie, Ines, Hannah and Jennifer.
Nearly two thirds of all students achieved grade 9s in Maths qualifications which included our first cohort taking the new Extended Maths Certificate. This is more than a bridge to A Level, it extends and challenges students beyond the confines of existing maths curricula where 90% of those taking the exams achieved a grade 9, or higher!
Almost three-quarters of grades in Science subjects were awarded as grade 9’s, showcasing the strength of STEM subjects at Oxford High School. History and RS were similarly successful whilst our French and Art students also saw remarkable results with 79% of students achieving grade 9.
These results reflect the school’s ethos of pushing boundaries and embracing challenge in all areas of the curriculum. Students are encouraged to be unapologetically themselves, creative, collaborative and courageous in their learning, while benefiting from outstanding support from the academic and wellbeing teams, leading to achievements that they can be proud of.
Beyond the classroom, students have excelled in co-curricular pursuits:
- Meisong, Mila and Lucy who celebrate an incredible 18 grade 9’s between them recently celebrated becoming regional winners and national finalists in the French Pop Video Competition, organised by the Institut français du Royaume-Uni, for their original song and video, “Les souvenirs”.
- Jennifer showcased her talents on the tennis courts while maintaining top academic performance, achieving 11 grade 9’s.
Marina Gardiner Legge, Head of Oxford High School GDST, said, “I want to congratulate every single one of these students for their hard work. They are a group of extraordinary young people, impatient to create positive change in the world. I am so grateful to all our staff, our parents and everyone in our community who has worked so hard to support them. I can’t wait to see what they and those girls who are joining us for Sixth Form will achieve.”
Mrs Vicki Barnes, Head of Year 11 said, “I have loved working with these remarkable pupils as they progressed through the school. Throughout that time, they have dedicated themselves, collaborated and supported each other. Their results reflect the brilliant individuals that they are. I look forward to their bright futures.”
