Our Lower School musical production of Bugsy Malone lit up the stage this week in a spectacular swirl of 1920s flair and high-energy performances! The Drama and Music Departments were thrilled to welcome packed audiences who joined us on this unforgettable journey into the world of speakeasies, rival gangs and charming crooners — all brought to life by our brilliantly talented students.
Set against the backdrop of the Prohibition era, Bugsy Malone follows the power struggle between two young gang leaders, Fat Sam and Dandy Dan, as they jostle for control of the city’s underworld. Amidst the chaos, we meet Blousey Brown, a determined performer with dreams of stardom — and the ever-resourceful Bugsy Malone, who finds himself caught between ambition and doing the right thing.
Our young cast embraced every moment of this playful twist on the classic gangster genre. From witty one-liners to full-scale musical numbers, they threw themselves into the show with impressive confidence, creativity and commitment. The staging was just as exciting as the performances — with smoke machines, haze and sound effects, all coordinated by our student tech team and Mr Hay.
This production was not only a celebration of theatre and music, but also of teamwork, confidence and the joy of storytelling. Congratulations to everyone involved, both on stage and behind the scenes, for creating such a vibrant, polished and thoroughly entertaining show. And thank you to our audiences for their enthusiastic support and generous applause.
We already can’t wait for the next one!
