On Tuesday 3rd December 2024, students from Oxford High School had the honour of making a special visit to Green Gates Care Home to present a birthday card to Helen Jones, former Deputy Head, in celebration of her 100th birthday.
The card, created by Prep children, was part of a larger community effort initiated by Green Gates to collect 100 birthday cards for Ms. Jones as a tribute to this remarkable milestone.
Helen Jones served as Deputy Head of Oxford High School between 1970 and 1984, during which she also taught History and Religious Studies. Her 100th birthday was celebrated with a telegram from the King and a tea party hosted by the care home.
Before her time at Oxford High, Helen was a student at Central Newcastle High School GDST, part of the class of 1943. From her evacuation to Keswick during World War II to studying history at Cambridge, and her volunteer work at the Ashmolean Museum, she has continually enriched the lives of those around her.
