On Monday 30th of September, years 5, 6 and 7 had an incredible author talk by Kiran Millwood Hargrave, who is the writer of a novel that many of us have already enjoyed reading at OHS: The Girl of Ink of Stars!
She is the author of a new trilogy, ‘The Shadow of the Wolf Queen,’ that we are all looking forward to reading, especially because we know that she has written many enthralling books, such as The Way Past Winter (which is a heartstopping book about the journey of three siblings to find their lost brother), Julia and the Shark, and Leila and the Blue Fox. You may have noticed that all of the main protagonists in these books are females who lead and change what happens in the novels, either through their strong character or their brave nature.
Both her protagonists and Kiran Milwood Hargrave herself, as an author, are truly inspirational: they show us how girls and women can change the world, one page at a time. In the audience, we listened not only as avid readers but also as girls who dream of becoming authors in our own right. She autographed copies of the books we have already loved reading, and opened up new worlds to us which we are excited to explore.
My favourite book by her is The Girl of Ink of Stars, which is about a girl called Isabella living on the Isle of Joya, until danger strikes and everyone she loves is in danger. Kiran writes about strong female protagonists and turns it into a beautiful story with adventure. It was very inspiring to hear about how she talked about her story of becoming an author. For most of us, we had never met an author in person, so it was a fantastic experience to meet her. She was a huge inspiration to the future authors at our school.
