Head’s Awards – Autumn Half Term

The Head’s Awards are a key part of our rewards structure which highlights the exceptional attributes and actions students demonstrate, whether in school or beyond. It’s our way of celebrating achievement, initiative and the remarkable impact our students are making on the world around them. 

  • Lilia (year), Tessa (year 13), Lowenna (year 13), Emma (year 13), Maya (year 13), Cass (year 13) all receive a Head’s Award for an outstanding delivery of the Political Theory conference.
  • And Ines (year 13), Amalie (year 13), Keira (year 13), Angela (year 13), Catherine (year 13), Maya (year 13), Cass (year 13) organised and delivered an Economics conference to over 90 schools and over 2000 students.
  • Congratulations to Anousha (year 11)  for winning the Amber Atherton Award for her excellent proposal to make a portable solar water purifier for use in remote areas. Not only was her application impressive, but she also wants to follow through and produce a prototype.
  • A big thank you and well done to Pollyanna (year 13) for single-handedly organising this year’s incredible Clubs Fair. Thank you so much for your superb leadership and championing clubs and co-curricular opportunities at OHS.
  • Cordelia (year 11) receives a Head’s award for numerous equestrian achievements, including competing in the Windsor horse trials, which was the selection for the England team, and competing in the mounted games championships, which is a  national competition. Cordelia’s team came 6th, putting them in the top 6 teams in all of England.
  • Nina (year 11) has also taken part in a number of equestrian events and receives a Head’s Award for her recent triumphs, placing 8th and 9th respectively in two U18 (international) competitions.
  • Amna (year 9), who was one of the winners (out of hundreds of entries) in the age 11-13 category for the University of Oxford, Faculty of Classics Graphic Novel Competition 2024. Amna chose to illustrate the meeting of Persephone and Hades’

Head’s Awards can also be given to reflect exceptional personal achievements, and for students who have pushed themselves outside of their comfort zone. We congratulate:

  • Matilda (year 7) and Esther (year 7)  for their remarkable courage, determination, kindness, and resilience: true OHS qualities. Well done, both.

In music…

  • Sofia (year 11) receives a Heads Award for passing piano ABRSM Grade 8 Exam
  • Catherine (year 12) has been awarded the Organ Scholarship with the Cathedral Singers of Christ Church.
  • Isabella (year 12) has reached the final stages of the BBC Young Chorister of the Year competition.
  • Hailey (year 11) has passed the LTCL diploma in percussion. This is a professional level qualification in musical performance, and passing it while still at school is a huge testament to Hailey’s hard work.
  • Phoebe (year 11) recently appeared in the BBC Promenade concerts in the Albert Hall, singing with Garsington Opera in Britten’s Midsummer Night’s Dream.
  •  Ana (year 10) has been selected to train with the junior Olympic skeet shooting team, despite only taking up the sport in July! Skeet shooting is a sport in which the competitor uses a shotgun to break clay targets.
  • Well done to Emily (year 12), Evie (year 13) and Uma (year 12) for running a half marathon and raising money for charity.
  • Nina (year 12) and Katherine (year 12) both wanted to study Greek A Level in Year 12 without having taken the GCSE. They both taught themselves Greek over the summer and returned to school and achieved outstanding results in a GCSE Greek language paper!
  • Congratulations to Amy (year 12) on achieving a runner-up place in September’s Inversity competition, addressing the question ‘How can technology help us eat healthier and live longer’. Amy gave a well-presented innovative solution to the judges.
  • Amy also receives a Head’s Award for gaining a place on the Oxford School of Climate Change (from over 250 applicants. She will be attending weekly climate change and climate action lectures after school
  • Amelie (year 7) receives a Head’s Award for her contribution to Drama. Amelie is performing in a production of Les Miserables at Radley College in November. On top of this, she is in the Didcot pantomime, Cinderella, and has recently been interviewed by BBC Radio Oxford. Well done Amelie!

Congratulations to all of you who have gone above and beyond in pursuing your interests and developing intellectual curiosity.
