Oxford High School GDST (Independent Girls School of the Year). has a strong track-record for excellent exam results, and the school’s pastoral provision – shortlisted for Independent School of the Year for Student Wellbeing, 2024 – means that students benefited from intensive pastoral support throughout their time at the school.
This was particularly crucial as this year’s GCSE students started Senior School in the midst of Covid disruption in 2020. A cohort of students who transitioned between Prep or Primary School and Senior School amidst great disruption to the world and their own individual lives and education, this year group wasted no time in exploring new possibilities and opportunities once they were able to; all of which will contribute to their bright futures:
- Twin sisters Harriet and Sylvie have achieved an amazing 18 grade 9s and 2 grade 8s between them.
- Amy celebrated 9 Grade 9s and an A* and recently delivered an engaging TEDx Youth talk Innovate or Stagnate: Linking Creativity and Progress at TEDx Oxford High School GDST Youth. Amy was part of a team whose coding ran on the International Space Station as part of the ‘Astro Pi: Mission Space Lab’ competition. She was also shortlisted and received a certificate of recognition from Imperial College London for the RCSU Science Challenge and earned a place at the UK Atomic Energy Authority for an invaluable work experience opportunity.
- Yumna who achieved 10 Grade 9s and delivered an articulate speech for GDST Chrystall Carter Public Speaking Prize on the topic “Can we escape the mistakes of the past?” and also presented at the Oxfordshire Youth Chemistry Conference on the topic of Extra-terrestrial atmospheric biosignatures and Raman Spectroscopy.
- Sophie who joined the school in Year 9 from Hong Kong achieved an incredible 11 Grade 9s.
- Lixuan – has excelled across the board with 10 Grade 9s and was recently awarded the ARSM Performance Diploma in the violin.
- Bori who was one of the many students celebrating 8 or more Grade 9s is cause for double celebration as her sister Flora achieved outstanding A Levels last week securing her place at Oxford University. The sisters demonstrated their talents in November last year when their rhythmic gymnastics group performed on Strictly: It Takes Two.
Marina Gardiner Legge, Head of Oxford High School GDST, said, “I want to congratulate every single one of these students for their hard work. They are a group of talented, grounded and connected changemakers. We all work so hard to support young people as they reach big moments like this – particularly for a generation that has needed to be quite so resilient after facing lockdown, isolation and disrupted learning. It’s so inspiring to witness what they’re then able to achieve with those firm foundations. I am so grateful to all our staff, our parents and everyone in our community who has worked so hard to support them.”
Ms Bramall, Head of Year 11 said, “I have worked with these remarkable pupils over the past four years. To have begun their Senior School education during a global crisis, only to rise to every challenge life threw at them, and then to achieve some outstanding results is an incredible achievement. I could not be more proud of this year group. ”
