We left the school with a minivan at 11:30am on Tuesday 9th of July, to depart on the wonderful adventure we experienced.
Our first stop was ‘La Smorfia’ in Oxford. We arrived there at midday and to our surprise, Mr Rugna had arranged for us to be speaking Italian with all the waiters and staff there! This allowed us to practise our Italian speaking skills whilst also enjoying the scrumptious food! I ordered a Margherita pizza and chose iced tea as my drink. It was very helpful that I had brought my vocabulary list with me as I was able to use the wide range of vocabulary that I had learnt.
After we finished eating, we returned to Summertown around 1:30pm to have a dessert from Alfonso’s (of course!)… I had the mango ice cream which would translate to ‘gelato al mango’ – this was great as we were even more immersed in Italian culture and were only allowed to speak Italian to buy the ice-cream.
Our class had been told that we would be having a cooking class from an Italian chef, yet we were not told what it was that we would cook and so it was an exciting surprise. The cooking class turned out to be about tiramisu. It was very educational as we had to speak only in Italian with the pastry chef, yet it was also fun to make tiramisu with all our friends and learn about Italian cooking.
Overall, it was a great event where we had the opportunity to apply our knowledge while simultaneously eating delicious food and having a great time!
