Social Action at Oxford High School, Summer Term

10 July 2024

As the school year draws to an end, we reflect on a summer filled with community spirit. This term has been marked by a series of remarkable events and initiatives that showcased the dedication and enthusiasm of both students and staff at Oxford High School. From vibrant fairs to rigorous athletic challenges, the school community came together to support worthy causes and make a positive impact on the local area.

Summer Fair

The Summer Fair was a lively way to spend a Wednesday lunchtime, which saw each form put their unique stamp on their stalls, organising everything from henna art and glitter tattoos to karaoke and a coconut shy. This collaborative effort highlighted the students’ teamwork and generosity in supporting a good cause.

Year 9 Social Action Day

Year 9 students had the opportunity to get involved in various community projects running in and around school as part of Kaleidoscope Day this term. They could participate in anything from litter picking and surveying biodiversity in the local area, to seeing how the funds they raise are put to use in a visit to Helen & Douglas House.

Staff Fundraising

Even the staff at Oxford High are getting involved in fundraising! A group of staff did their bit to fundraise for local charities by participating in the Oxford Town and Gown 10K and Blenheim Triathlon this summer. They ran, cycled, and swam in aid of Year 8’s chosen charity, Thinking of Oscar.

Kicking things off, a team of 10 staff ran the Town and Gown around the streets of Oxford on Sunday 12th May. Then, on Sunday 2nd June, two staff teams entered the Blenheim Triathlon, competing in the Sprint team relay. Some of the staff involved had never taken part in competitive events before and some had not run, cycled, or swum in a while!

Adding to the efforts, Mr. Pelling and Mr. Dighton cycled over 200 miles from Oxford High School to Lymington (in a single day!) to raise money for Thinking of Oscar. There’s still time to sponsor our staff and students, click here!
