On Thursday 8th February, the Science Department organised a trip to the New Theatre for a GCSE Science Live event for Year 10. We heard from many scientists who are experts in their fields on a wide range of fascinating topics, ranging from astronomy to oceanography, and got to discover whether time travel really could be achieved in a talk by Professor Jim Al-Khalili. In between these lectures, we heard from an experienced science examiner, who gave us many extremely helpful tips on how to gain the highest marks in our science GCSEs.
Our favourite talk was by Dame Maggie Aderin-Pocock who informed us all about her job working in outer space. It was really interesting to hear all about how she was inspired from a young age and is now fulfilling her dreams. Maggie was really inspiring and it was amazing to get the opportunity to see her talk about how passionate she is in her field of work.
“I thought it was a really inspiring day, especially hearing all about the possibilities of time travel. I feel I learnt so much more about the exams as well, and I feel much more confident sitting my science GCSEs now. Overall it was a really fun day and really useful.” a Year 10 student
