On Monday 6th March Oxford High School’s Quiz Team played two Schools Challenge matches, a Junior match and a Senior match.
School’s Challenge is a school’s version of the TV show University Challenge and is a yearly occurrence across the UK. The Junior team of Anisha, Emma, Flora and Lisa (all Year 8 pupils) played against King Edward VI Camp Hill Boys School, Birmingham. The Senior team of myself, Clara, Kimia and Rose (all Year 10 pupils) played against the team from Herefordshire Cathedral School.
Both the Junior and Senior teams did extremely well and, although we didn’t win our matches, it was a brilliant experience. As a member of the Senior team, I found it really exhilarating when we got a question right and there was even one point where we were in the lead! I find quizzing so fun as it gives you an opportunity to both test your knowledge and learn new facts. For example, who knew that Alexander Graham Bell also invented the Metal Detector and that Dr Seuss’ real name was Theodor Seuss Geisel!
I would like to thank Mrs Townend and Mr Abbott on behalf of both of the teams for the work they have done in organising these matches and for all their encouragement and support.
