Sixth Form Challenge Day

28 September 2022

This week has seen the second of our annual Challenge Days designed to help students embrace challenge, develop resilience and teamwork and to have some fun together.  The Ada Benson Building reverberated to the sound of beat boxing and steel pan ensembles, there were creative challenges with balloon sculpture, Japanese wagashi sweets making, as well as Chinese dance and tango, stand up comedy, circus skills and honey extraction from the OHS hives.  Students did a take over of the school Instagram account for the day, documenting their activities by posting their photos and interviews.  It was great to see students testing their resilience and having so much fun together.

I would have never signed up for dancing, especially not Tango, but I enjoyed pushing myself out of my comfort zone. I thought it would be humiliating but it turned out to be great fun! – Katherine Year 13

I spent the morning doing Japanese sweet making, which was incredibly satisfying, and the final products looked amazing. I’m very glad to have had the experience. – Annie Year 13

I did beatboxing on the challenge day, which opened my eyes to a different branch of music that I knew very little about. I found BeatFox’s skills very impressive and, although I wasn’t very good, he was an amazing teacher. – Tehya year 12

On the challenge day, we were given the password to the school Instagram account to take pictures and videos of the day. It was huge amounts of fun because we were able to go round each activity to see what they were up to. It was also great that the teachers had so much trust in us to give us the password. – Harsika Year 13
