Year 9 Duke of Edinburgh

20 May 2021

During the weekend of 15th May, Year 9 completed their training for their upcoming Duke of Edinburgh Bronze expedition.

Despite the rain – which arrived just in time for their first taste of DofE – or perhaps because of it, Year 9’s extraordinary character shone through over the weekend. They took new ideas and skills in their stride, such as learning how to cook on the unfamiliar Trangia stoves. A large part of the training was, of course, focused on navigational skills which, if employed correctly, should prevent them from going too astray when let loose in future expeditions.

A huge thank you to the team from Zest for Adventure and the school staff who gave up what would have been their dry, cozy, and warm weekend, and to the parents for dropping off their daughters in good spirits and being understanding enough to let them get back into the car regardless of how muddy they had gotten during the days!

The next expedition looms in June and will put our Year 9s to the test to see if they have taken on board everything from the weekend – we have every confidence in them!
