Why Girls and GDST?
Oxford High School is a proud member of the Girls’ Day School Trust, a unique family of 26 girls’ schools, including 24 independent schools and two academies, across England and Wales. As specialists in girls’ education, we tailor our teaching to the way girls learn best.
The school was founded in 1875 by Ada Benson, making us the first girls’ school in Oxford and the ninth school to join what is now known as the Girls’ Day School Trust. Since then, we have remained true to the principles and vision of our founder: we seek to equip girls with the resources, drive and determination to change the world for the better.
A single-sex environment provides more opportunity for girls to take on leadership responsibilities, including those traditionally held by men, thereby equipping them with the tools and confidence to succeed in a competitive world.
The GDST has published research about the strengths and impact of girls’ schools.
