Summer Promenade Concert 2022

14 July 2022

On a still summer’s evening earlier this week, the enchanting sounds of musical melodies could be heard around Oxford High School as we held our much-anticipated Summer Promenade Concert.

The last musical event of the school year, this concert took place outside to make the most of the beautiful summer weather, and many attendees brought their own picnic rugs or folding chairs, with some even coming prepared with a picnic and drinks. Enjoying the talents of our OHS musicians with some refreshments – could there be a more pleasant way to pass a summer’s evening?

As always, Dr Foster and his fantastic Music Department prepared a delightful programme of performances, encompassing a range of musical ensembles. Over the course of the evening, we heard from our Senior Orchestra, Ad Funkem, String Quartet, Clarinet Ensemble, Lower School Choir, Lower School Orchestra, String Orchestra, Chamber Choir, ‘Point 5’, Concert Band and, last but not least, ‘Some Students’ – an ensemble made up of three students who performed Lennon and McCartney’s Come Together. We heard the works of a variety of composers and writers, from the more traditional Handel and Tchaikovsky, to the more modern Amy Winehouse, Stevie Wonder and U2.

What an exceptional evening and it was, without doubt, the perfect cherry atop a wonderful year of musical delight. Thank you to everyone who was involved!
