Sports Updates

26 November 2021

We have had another round of non-stop sporting successes and highlights during the past two weeks, and we’re delighted to share the details with you below!

U18 Outdoor Hockey

The U18 outdoor hockey team won the Tier 4 South Finals last week, qualifying for the National Finals. The team played fantastically well and had to work very hard to finish top of their group after two wins and a draw, putting them into the semi-finals. The semi-final was a very tight game with the opposition going ahead first before Oxford High levelled it at 1-1. The team then took the lead at 2-1 which they saw out until the end. Already exhausted from a long day of hockey, they had one more game to win which was an end-to-end game with chances either end. Some excellent defending from the whole team and outstanding goalkeeping from Millie enabled OHS to keep the ball out of the net and take one of their chances at the other end, winning them the final game with 1-0 and qualifying for the National Finals. This is the first time in OHS history that a hockey team has made the National Finals – what an incredible achievement by the students! Well done to Millie L, Grace D, Shaan B, Heidi P, Erin J, Olivia S-C, Katie S-C, Alice P, Jess S, Iona I, Tess C, Harriet W, Bobby G-G, and Imogen G.

U18 Indoor Hockey

The U18 indoor hockey team played in the county finals last week, where they played three tough games and performed astoundingly well to finish 2nd. They are now through to the Regional Finals which takes place this Sunday 28th November. Indoor hockey is a relatively new sport to the team and to the school, with this being the first time in OHS history that an indoor hockey team has qualified for Regional Finals – so much history being made by this fantastic group of players! Their hockey skills are superb but their work ethic on the pitch is the true key to their success. Well done to Millie L, Olivia S-C, Katie S-C, Erin J, Alice P, Bobby G-G, Charlotte P, Imogen G, and Ines H.

U16 Netball Team

The U16 netball team played in the county finals last week, where they played in a round-robin format, winning every single game to finish the tournament undefeated and picking up the title of County Champions. This is an incredible achievement given the standard of netball in Oxfordshire, the long tournament day, and lots of games of netball. The team performed outstandingly well, were exceptionally focused and driven, and worked extremely hard throughout the tournament to get the gold medal! They will now play in the Regional Finals in January and hope to continue building on their success. Well done to Grace D, Bella A, Harriet P, Maisie K, Sana K, Anoushka K, Sofia O, Helena K, Katie S-C, and Heidi P.

Year 9/Year 10 Cross Country

The Y9/10 cross country team competed in the Regional Finals in Cambridge last week. The race was of an extremely high standard and the team did very well to finish 6th in the region, with our highest place runner Emily C finishing in 15th place out of over 100 runners! Well done to Emily C, Emily B, Emily C-P, Hazel-Anne C, and Sylvie M.
