Preparing for the Future

Sixth Form is a time to explore passions, sharpen perspectives and take real steps towards shaping the world.

In collaboration with our students, we have crafted a unique and future-focused programme that goes far beyond traditional academics, because the next generation of changemakers needs more than just good grades.

They need vision, voice and the confidence to use both.

Confidence, Capability, and Character

At Oxford High Sixth Form, preparing for the future is not a box-ticking exercise, it’s a mindset. Our students don’t just leave with qualifications; they leave with clarity, confidence, and the skills to lead in whatever path they choose.

From the moment they join, Sixth Formers are immersed in a culture that values curiosity, independence, and initiative.

Where Curiosity becomes Expertise

The Warnock Extended Research Project is a cornerstone of this experience. It’s a chance to explore a topic of personal interest in depth, guided by expert mentors. Whether producing a dissertation or creating an artefact, students learn to think critically, manage long-term projects, and present with conviction. These are skills that set them apart in university applications and beyond.

Our OHS Inspires Programme builds on this academic stretch, offering masterclasses led by experienced academics in subjects ranging from History of Art and Medicine to Literature and Social Sciences. These sessions challenge students to think beyond the syllabus and engage with university-level ideas, often sparking new directions for research and future study.

Confidence for the Future

But preparation for life goes far beyond academics. Our University Ready Programme equips students with essential life skills ranging from financial literacy and healthy relationships, to self-defence and study strategies. These sessions are practical, empowering, and designed to ensure every student steps into adulthood with confidence and capability.

Critical thinking is another key part of our Sixth Form experience. In weekly sessions, students learn to evaluate arguments, present ideas clearly, and make sound decisions. These are skills that prove invaluable in interviews, careers, and everyday life. It’s not about learning facts; it’s about learning how to think.

Perspective that Powers Purpose

And then there’s Perspectives, a transformative programme that helps students understand themselves, their communities, and the wider world.

Through strands like Myself, My Community, and The Wider World, students explore identity, wellbeing, and global issues.

Students volunteer in local schools, lead reading programmes, contribute to the school magazine, and engage with initiatives such as STEM outreach, GDST Lead (which combines social action and entrepreneurship), and the Conrad Challenge which combines business and science to find innovative solutions to global problems.

These experiences build empathy, initiative, and a sense of purpose.

Real‑World Challenges from Real‑World Voices

The Global Challenges Speaker series, part of the Wider World strand, brings leading academics and professionals into school to speak on topics ranging from global politics and justice to finance and public health.

These talks spark debate, inspire research, and help students connect classroom learning to real-world impact.

Taking on the World, and Shaping It

Our Sixth Formers don’t just prepare for university, they prepare to lead. Whether mentoring younger pupils, launching clubs, volunteering in the community, or representing the school at national competitions, they learn to take initiative, speak up, and make a difference.

The result? Students who are not only academically accomplished, but personally grounded, socially aware, and ready to take on the world.

Continually upwards, personally and purposefully.
