At OHS we pride ourselves on our thought-provoking Personal, Social, Health, Citizenship and Economic (PSHCE) education, which covers a wide range of topics, inline with statutory guidance. The curriculum is carefully planned to follow national advice, ensuring that topics are covered in an age-appropriate manner.
We continually review and update our PSHCE provision, ensuring that it is both proactive and reactive, so students are able to make informed life choices, using up to date information, when matters arise. As well as this, we work closely with our pastoral teams to adapt to changing student needs. This gives students the chance to gain relevant knowledge and creates opportunities for discussion, at key times in their education journey. Our whole-school PSHCE activities include the following:
School Council | Equalities Prefects | Green Fair Reps | Whole school PSHCE Focus (LGBTQ/Neurodivergence) |
Y12 Book Buddies (Cutteslowe) |
Y12 Science Mentors (New Marston) |
Y9 Football Leaders | Y8 JEMS Mentors |
PSHCE is delivered by specialist teachers through weekly timetabled lessons and whole year group assemblies. We enhance our curriculum between Year 7 and Year 11 to include regular workshops from external speakers, the school nurse and other outside agencies, such as the local police. Our Relationship and Sex Education (RSE) is taught through our PSHCE curriculum, in line with our RSE policy.
