Year 11 Take on the Mock United Nations

Written by Alice, Year 11

From Friday the 6th to Sunday the 8th of February, a group of Year 11 students embarked on a three day Model United Nations conference at St Anne’s University. It was a wonderful opportunity to not only practise debating and policy drafting, but also meet new people from all around the world!

The group was split into several different committees over the course of the weekend, with Freja C in Economic and Financial Affairs Council (ECOFIN) representing Brazil, Taia K and Kitty M in COP31 representing Iceland, Maria F and Jaci B in WHO representing South Africa and Germany, and Flora C and Alison Z in the CSW, representing Argentina and Ukraine. Special congratulations go to Taia and Kitty, who won Outstanding Delegate, and to Maria, who won Best Delegate!

The conference included some wonderful traditions, such as the old Oxford tradition of buying others carnations. The Model United Nations club at school is entirely student run, and this competition was a fantastic experience for everybody involved, demonstrating our schools’ mission for students to speak up and initiate action.
