Supporting Student Wellbeing: Highlights from Oxford High School Wellness Week

We took the time to focus on our wellbeing, and the wellbeing of those around us, during Wellness Week. This year, we were delighted to link our activities with Children’s Mental Health Week, embracing the theme ‘This is my place’, which celebrates the vital importance of belonging. We know that for students to truly thrive, they need to feel they have a place where they are known and valued. Research shows that students with a strong sense of school belonging are three times more likely to demonstrate high academic motivation and report significantly lower levels of anxiety. Feeling “at home” at school is one of the most powerful ways to support the mind and spirit.Throughout the week, students explored the wide range of clubs and opportunities available at Oxford High School GDST, discovering spaces where they could find their tribe and embrace who they truly are. Wellness Week showcased activities that allowed students to channel both physical and creative energies, alongside some exciting special events.Highlights included:

  • Breaktime treats, with free cookies, sports, games and colouring activities.
  • Creative lunchtimes, featuring bracelet making, origami and nail painting stations.
  • House LipSync, which brought high energy, laughter, and community spirit to the school.
  • Year 7 self-defence sessions, designed to empower students and build confidence.
  • Non-uniform day, themed ‘wear what makes you HAPPY’.
  • Movie night, organised by Year 9 students, giving everyone a chance to relax and enjoy friendship.
  • Wellbeing is about more than activities, it is about supporting one another. It was wonderful to see our students encouraging each other with questions like: “Which makes you feel most ‘you’?”

We are incredibly proud of how our students look out for one another, and Wellness Week was a brilliant celebration of our school community.
