Oxford High School GDST is proud to announce that it has successfully met all the required standards following its latest inspection by the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI), with inspectors highlighting the “empowerment of pupils” as a significant strength of the school.
The inspection, which included a comprehensive review of both the Prep and Senior Schools, recognised the school’s exceptional commitment to developing confident, capable and self-aware students.
Inspectors noted:
“Leaders’ empowerment of pupils to accept responsibility and show initiative is a significant strength of the school. Pupils learn a variety of skills needed for their future lives, become more self-confident and develop their self-knowledge and self-esteem. They contribute positively to the lives of those living and working in the locality and society more widely.”
Strong Academic Outcomes and Inspiring Teaching
The report reaffirms Oxford High School’s reputation for academic excellence, with pupils consistently achieving results above the national average at GCSE and A Level.
Inspectors praised the quality of teaching, describing it as “inspiring and varied,” and highlighting that pupils are:
- Inquisitive and articulate
- Confident problem-solvers
- Creative in applying their knowledge
- Strong collaborators
This high-quality teaching is underpinned by an inclusive approach, with the report noting that the school effectively supports pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), including those with Education, Health and Care (EHC) plans.
A Truly Inclusive School Community
A key theme throughout the report is the school’s inclusive and supportive culture. Inspectors found that:
“An inclusive culture prevails throughout the school” where “mutual respect and understanding between pupils of different cultures is authentic and supportive.”
This reflects Oxford High School’s commitment to ensuring every pupil feels valued, respected and able to thrive.
Exceptional Pastoral Care
The ISI also commended the school’s strong pastoral provision, recognising the nurturing environment that supports pupils’ emotional wellbeing, resilience and positive relationships.
“I am delighted to share that Oxford High School has met all the requirements of our latest ISI inspection. I am particularly pleased that the inspectors officially recognised our commitment to student empowerment as a significant strength.
While we are proud that the report highlights our academic results, I am equally heartened to see our authentic inclusive culture and our ‘inspiring and varied’ teaching celebrated so clearly.” – Marina Gardiner Legge, Head of Oxford High School GDST
