Oxford High students are celebrating over 50% of GCSE grades awarded Grade 9 with 74% of all results graded 8 to 9.

An impressive 50% of all GCSE grades awarded were the highest, Grade 9, with an extraordinary 74% at Grades 9/8. The majority of the girls will now study A-Levels at Oxford High School GDST’s Sixth Form, where the inspiring teaching and opportunities to use initiative and agency were highlighted earlier this year, in the school’s inspection.

“Today is an occasion to celebrate not only the grades our students have achieved, but the young women they have become in the process. They have made an extraordinary range of contributions to the school and will continue to grasp these opportunities in our Sixth Form.
I am particularly proud of this cohort who have shown that their academic curiosity is underpinned with real resilience and tenacity; girls who started their senior school journey in social bubbles as a result of COVID have thrived and grown into positive, confident, generous young people.
I am delighted that so many will be progressing to our Sixth Form and, in turn, becoming leaders of the future, and look forward to seeing where their interests and ideas, coupled with their ambitions, take them. I want to thank everyone who has helped to guide them in our community, including our dedicated staff and supportive families.”
Individual stories include Taisia and Aadya, who have thrived both in and out of the classroom. Taisia, with 11 GCSEs, and Aadya, with 9, have excelled at tennis, helping the school win the School of the Year award from the Lawn Tennis Association, alongside twice becoming National finalists and School Sport magazine National Cup winners.
Further sporting and academic success can be seen in Cassie, a U16 England touch rugby team player, who combined her passion for the sport with subjects such as Textiles, in which she was recognised by the OCR examination board as being one of the top candidates in the country and gained an impressive eight 9/8s overall. She will go on to become a STEM scholar here at OHS Sixth Form.
Several of our families will be celebrating outstanding success at both GCSE and A level today. Evie, who achieved straight 9s in 11 GCSEs, will also be toasting her sister Eleanor’s success after she received straight A*s in her A levels last week, securing her place to study Biomedical Sciences at Edinburgh. Trisee gained 10 GCSEs, all at grades 7 – 9, and will follow in her sister’s footsteps to OHS Sixth Form from where, last week, Trinity picked up her fabulous A level results (A* A A A), which will allow her to start at King’s College London, reading Neuroscience and Psychology. Emilia, who was awarded eleven 9s, follows in the footsteps of Alex, who left two years ago to study Molecular Science at Oxford. All three will be joining our Sixth Form as Academic Scholars.
The breadth of interests across the year group reflects Oxford High’s belief that the education we provide gives girls the freedom and confidence to discover where their individual strengths lie and see where their interests can take them in a world without limits.
Among the next generation of thinkers and creators, Maria and Alice, keen Debaters, have set up a charity to provide debating opportunities for others in the community (22 GCSEs with 19 9s between them).
Several students balanced demanding creative commitments with academic success during the school’s landmark 150th-anniversary production of ‘ Les Misérables’ at the end of June. Lead performer Olivia and supporting cast members, Aliya and Lucia, worked tirelessly alongside backstage crew members, Pippa, Simran, Edie, Ayla, and Sofia, with all eight celebrating a wealth of GCSEs (26 at Grade 9). Emma and Angela (16 9s) also found time to achieve fantastic results whilst playing in the band for the musical.
Musical standout, Lexi (10 GCSEs at Grade 9/8), combined academic achievement with artistic excellence, playing clarinet in London’s Lord Mayor’s Show during Year 11 while representing Guildhall Young Artists and the Junior Guildhall School of Music.
This year’s results are especially significant as Oxford High School celebrates 150 years of educating girls in Oxford. Founded in 1875, the oldest girls’ school in Oxford, the ‘High School’ continues its mission to create forward-thinking, independent, ambitious young women who will shape the world for the better.
