National success for our Equestrian teams

26 April 2016

The OHS Equestrian Team, managed by Ellie Secker in Year 13 and Poppy Berdoy-Webster in Year 12, are members of the The National Schools’ Equestrian Association (NSEA). The NSEA is the recognised body for equestrianism in schools throughout the UK, providing intra and inter-schools competitions for team and individual riders. Competitions for teams and individuals start at Grass Roots level and build up to National Schools qualifiers and annual Championships. In March 2016, members of the OHS Equestrian Team became County Champions in Dressage and qualified to represent Oxfordshire at the National Schools County Championships. Mia Chopping qualified as an individual winner for the Championships. In April 2016, members of the OHS Equestrian Team became County Champions in Show Jumping and also qualified to represent the County at the National Schools County Championships. Their achievements and hard work were rewarded this week when the dressage team of Ellie Secker, Poppy Berdoy-Webster, Mia Chopping and Martha Carey were placed fourth (out of 29 teams) in the NSEA National Championships, the highlight of the school competition year with over 500 riders representing schools from all over the country competing for National Champion titles in dressage, show jumping and arena eventing.  Later in the day Mia competed as an individual, which was a great experience even though she missed out on a top 8 placing. On Saturday the Show Jumping team of Poppy Berdoy-Webster, Eloise Burden, Ella Johnson and Iris Petrillo competed and were placed 13th.

Congratulations to all the competitors, we are very proud of our OHS equestrian team!
