Oxford High Junior School’s high academic standards are underpinned by a commitment to developing positive attitudes to thinking and learning. Opportunities are provided for our girls through a range of different teaching styles and by using a specific language for learning which enables all girls to ask and answer questions at a higher level. What girls learn is important but how they learn is what really distinguishes an exceptional education.
We believe that a sophisticated learner is intelligent, well informed and able to interpret complex issues. They develop a set of skills that enable them to collaborate with their teachers, peers and others in ways that build on their understanding.
Our connected curriculum provides a strong framework through which the connections between subjects are clearly mapped, whilst providing adaptability and flexibility for teaching staff. This approach increases girls’ motivation, enthusiasm and engagement. Through creative teaching and learning, girls know what they need to do to be successful learners.
OHS girls put value on connectivity. In creating and sharing knowledge, they are much more receptive to new ideas, keen to learn new skills and are determined to see things through. Our cross- curricular approach fosters this broader understanding, providing opportunities to apply knowledge and learning in practical ways and enabling our girls to solve problems in a variety of situations.
Our curriculum is tailored to stretch and challenge every girl. By doing this, we know that she will gain a foundation of rich and balanced knowledge. Specialist teachers teach music, PE, languages, science and art and all our staff from both Senior and Junior teams work together as a whole school to develop vibrant, confident girls.
